  • ( ) Wine and chocolate on Mother's Day add up to a few pounds of regret

I've been sidelined from doing some upper body workouts because of a sore muscle in my left shoulder, so I just ride the bicycle longer.

Hal Nelson, head of physical therapy for Nifty, talked to me about upper body workouts and you can read his exercise thoughts of the week at WomanSage, Losers Club.

My theory is to be active for a minimum of 45 minutes every day.

Two days a week I do water therapy, which is probably my best workout for stretching and activating tired muscles.

I refuse to be upset about a one week setback.

I only intended to lose 25 pounds in a year, I've still lost seven in nine weeks of effort.

My goal in the Losers Club is to end the year in better shape than I started and to keep it up in 2009. More>>

  • ( ) If pounds lost were years, she'd be 18 again

How are your workouts done? For 15 minutes, their trainers stretch with arms behind your back. It's wonderful. Then it's five minutes of crunches at different heights, or core work, then it's a specialty, like arms and upper body. Then you go to that main workout but you will break in the time so you don't get bored. They are very good about not letting you get bored. . More>>
  • ( ) Product Review: Wii Fit

In order to guide you through the ideal workout for your age and fitness level, similar to a personal trainer down your local gym, the Wii Fit will require you to go through a number of steps to gauge where your fitness is now and where it should be.

This was the most annoying part of the game and I felt like abandoning it several times. It took around half an hour to set up: it gathers information such as your age, height, weight, posture and balance and finally lets you begin.

Dont worry if you appear off-balance everyone I know that tried it was leaning a little to the left or right.

Now the fun begins! While the step aerobics and jogging didnt really appeal to me, the fun games were the ones that left me breathless: hula-hoop, which is an aerobics workout, and slalom skiing, which improves balance. More>>

  • ( ) Owners of defunct Monroe gym vow customer refunds

Hundreds of Allstar Fitness Club clients complained they were out thousands of dollars in prepaid memberships and personal training sessions after the gym abruptly shut down in September.

They filed a class action lawsuit in October, alleging that they were owed refunds for services they paid for but never received.

"Basically overnight they shut down and people called and e-mailed but didn't get any response," said Seattle attorney John Phillips, who represented the former Allstar clients.

The fitness club agreed to settle out of court and refund former clients' money, totalling more than $112,000, he said. Some people will get full refunds and others, who transferred their memberships to another Monroe gym, will get half their money back.

Phillips said he didn't know why the gym shut down. More>>
  • ( ) Britney Spears is no role model anymore

The pop idol and sensational was pictured heading to Bally's Total Fitness during the afternoon and to the recording studio by night. The hype is that she is rehearsing really hard for an upcoming performance but the Adelano guy is really becoming a newsy item.

Britney has also suffered media coverage over her vanity photos with a rose clapped on her milk teeth and she looking wild and sexy making fun of the Vanity Fair issue with Julia Roberts on the cover. Funny enough Julia is clapping a rose on her mouth and smiling just as Britney.

The singer is also having child custody case in Los Angeles. However, Britney's latest scandals in which she was caught strapped on a stretcher and rushed into an ambulance and the latest bad publicity in the child custody case is defaming her. More>>

  • ( ) Budget fitness: Lose the inches, not the bucks

Fitness experts say that staying, or getting, in shape doesn't have to put undue pressure on already-fragile finances — especially now that the weather's warm. For around $100, the fitness-inclined can outfit a low-profile home exercise studio with all the equipment needed for a well-rounded workout, said Mary Anne Fantauzzi, a personal trainer. The key to creating an effective home exercise program is to include components that work three key areas: cardio, strength and flexibility. Here's what Fantauzzi recommends:

    1. CROSS-TRAINING SNEAKERS

Get a good pair so you're not putting undue stress on feet and ankles. The sneakers you wear at the gym may not be conducive to the activities that will be part of your home workout. A shoe that's appropriate for an aerobics class wouldn't provide the proper support for vigorous walking outdoors, for instance. More>>
  • ( ) Bruins' Haynes takes control

Smith says the offseason workouts have allowed the offense to gel."I can feel the players meshing together," Smith said. "We've had a lot of reps this spring and I have a feel for what he (Haynes) is going to do and he knows when I'm going to break (on a passing route). We had a great winter and an even better spring. And we're going to a lot of (football) camps this summer, so I feel good about next season."Hopefully by then, Smith will be fully recovered from a torn meniscus that forced a detour in his high school athletic career. Not only did he miss all but the four final games of last football season, but he also sat out the entire 2008 baseball season in favor of track, which better suited the rehabilitation process.Judging by his performance, his knee would appear close to 100 percent."It's getting there," Smith said.
